All eyes were on Wednesday which is today for a special reason. For the first time in decades election is held to elect the Lok Sabha speaker. The opposition INDIA alliance wanted to challenge the appointment of Om Birla and fielded a candidate. The elections were out, and we had a clear winner.

BJP’s Om Birla was elected as the Speaker. This is the second time the MP became the Speaker in a row. With this, he became the second speaker to do so. Earlier Balram Jakhar served as the speaker for two consecutive terms between 1980 and 1989.

What happened can be seen as a relief to the ruling NDA. This is the first challenge it faced after the elections. Though it is in power it cannot reach the magic figure on its own and has to seek the allies' support.

The opposition parties which put up a big show compared to the two previous elections challenged the ruling side on Speaker post and created a space for the election. Despite this Om Birla is elected as the Speaker. After this the house congratulated him.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi walked Om Birla to the speaker podium and congratulated him. The two congratulated him and exchanged wishes.

Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi shook their hands with Om Birla to congratulate him. He served as the speaker between 2014-19. Yet again he is made the speaker of the house. The Congress party fielded K Suresh as the INDIA alliance candidate. However, Om Birla won the election.

After wishing Om Birla, the opposition parties expressed their wish that the opposition voice would be allowed in the house. The likes of Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and TMC leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay gave their thoughts on welcoming the opposition voice.
