When we talk about sports in India, Cricket flashes into most minds given the unmatched craze it enjoys. Over the decades, Cricket has been enjoying great popularity. In every generation, we have a gem of a player who makes fans stick to the screens during the matches.

We are coming out of the Cricket obsession slowly. Other sports are also getting attention now. Of late, Chess is getting good attention and popularity. A teenager is showing the world how good he is as a player.

Young sensation Praggnanandhaa is seeing great heights as a chess player. Earlier people used to talk about Viswanathan Anand in chess. But it is not an exaggeration in saying that people are talking about him now.

The achievements he has achieved are the big reason behind this. He added another feather to his illustrious cap by going past the great Viswanathan Anand. Praggnanandhaa now emerged as the top-ranked player in the country in the latest rankings.

In the latest International Chess Federation aka FIDE's ranking, Praggnanandhaa is standing at the 11th position with a rating of 2748.3. Viswanathan Anand is in the 12th position, one point below the teenager in the latest ratings.

Praggnanandhaa reached a new height in his career after defeating world champion Ding Liren. In the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2024, the Indian grandmaster defeated the World Number One.

By defeating the World Number One, Praggnanandhaa became the second Indian player after Viswanathan Anand to achieve the big milestone. We might see the young player achieve even bigger heights with the time passing by.

Defeating Ding Liren is not the first time for Indian sensation Praggnanandhaa. He defeated the Chinese chess grandmaster the previous year too. However, the only difference is that in 2023, Ding was in the second position, and in 2024 he is World Number One. Despite the change in positions, he defeated him twice.
