SC Lists Demeaning Words That Should Be Ignored!
In dealing with certain cases, people and courts use some words to describe women. Now the old words will not be used and new words were proposed in their place.
Over the years, the courts are bringing many reforms which are appreciable. Recently, the Indian Supreme Court said that there is a need to have special legislation on bail and suggested a few reforms. Talking about the reforms, the two-judge bench said that there is a need for reforms.
As another big step, the Supreme Court released a handbook on the words that should be used and avoided in dealing with the cases. The top court said that the existing words are objectionable and to deal with this, new words were proposed.

The handbook which talks about the words that should be used and should not be used and avoided was mentioned in the book, called handbook was released by the Chief Justice of India.
The Apex Court said that words like slut, harlot, seductress, and fallen woman cannot be used. Even demeaning words used against children or juveniles like bastard were also barred by the top court.
The country's top court said that gender stereotypes should be eradicated by all means and the initiative was taken by the judiciary's end and the words which are used against women and the practice should be stopped.
"If harmful stereotypes are relied on by judges, it can lead to a distortion of the objective and impartial application of the law. This will perpetuate discrimination and exclusion," the handbook that was released by the SC said.
