New Demand: Bharat Ratna For Vaccine Manufacturer's Founder!

Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian award in the country. Personalities who make valuable contributions in their respective fields are honored with the prestigious award. The Union Government is picking the personalities for the prestigious award at regular intervals to honor them.

In 2024, the Indian Government announced two Bharat Ratna awards. Former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani and former Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, who is known for his work in empowering the communities were selected for the prestigious award of the country.

Now a big demand was made batting for honoring a personality with Bharat Ratna. Veteran politician Sharad Pawar came up with the demand to confer Serum Institute Founder Cyrus Poonawalla with the award. He made the demand while addressing a gathering.

Sharad Pawar said that the Serum Institute plays a vital role in vaccine manufacture and the vaccines manufactured by the institute are given to people across the globe and they have a valuable contribution.

The Veteran politician said that the vaccines manufactured by Serum Institute go to many countries, mainly to African countries. He also highlighted the vital role the institute played in the Covid vaccine manufacture.

When the Covid pandemic was ringing danger bells across the globe, the Serum Institute came up with the Covishield vaccine. The vaccines were among the vaccines that were manufactured in the country.

Not just in India, but the vaccines were used in other countries as well. It is not wrong to say that the Serum Institute played a crucial role in fighting the Covid virus. When India sent the medical supplies including the vaccines, Covishield was also sent.

Considering all these aspects Sharad Pawar claimed that Serum Institute Founder Cyrus Poonawalla should be honored with the Bharat Ratna award. Will the Centre take any call on this? Only time has an answer to this. Let us wait and see.
