A tragic incident has unfolded in Chennai, where a 22-year-old woman from Noombal, near Vanagaram, reportedly died from food poisoning after consuming shawarma from a local eatery. The victim, identified as Swetha, worked as a teacher at a private school and had gone out with her brother to enjoy the popular fast food item. Shortly after returning home, she also ate fish curry, but her health took a turn for the worse that night.

According to reports, Swetha began experiencing severe vomiting and fainting spells shortly after her meal. Her family acted quickly, rushing her to a private hospital in Porur for treatment. Unfortunately, her condition did not improve, leading them to transfer her to the Government Stanley Hospital on September 17. Despite medical intervention, she succumbed to her illness the following day, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

The Maduravoyal police have since registered a case and are awaiting the postmortem report to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities are particularly focused on whether the shawarma or any other food consumed contributed to her tragic demise. This incident has raised alarms about food safety standards in local eateries and has sparked calls for stricter regulations.

As the investigation unfolds, this heartbreaking case serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with consuming street food and highlights the need for enhanced food safety measures to protect consumers. Local residents and health officials are urging for immediate action to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.
