Finding a life partner is usually a personal matter. But in Singapore, it seems the government wants to give Cupid a little help. The country is reportedly testing a dating app called FirstDate to encourage people to find suitable partners as it faces a declining birth rate.

The app is designed for government employees aged 21 to 35 who are interested in finding a partner for marriage. It reportedly matches users based on their hobbies, interests and lifestyle choices. Unlike regular dating apps, users can connect with only one match at a time. They must also verify their identity through Singapore's government digital ID system.

The idea comes at a time when Singapore is worried about its falling number of births. Fewer than 30,000 babies were reportedly born in the country in 2025, raising concerns about its future population.

Now comes the interesting part. While many people struggle to find love through dating apps, Singapore appears to be trying a more organised approach. With the government stepping in, finding a partner could start to feel a little like an official assignment!

However, the app's limited eligibility has also raised questions. Why only government employees? And why stop at the age of 35? Private-sector workers and older singles may also be looking for love.

The initiative is reportedly still being tested, and its future will depend on the results. Whether it leads to more marriages and babies remains to be seen. For now, Singapore's approach shows just how seriously the country is taking its birth-rate problem.
