Salt is the mostly used seasoning in the world. It brings a good texture to the food we consume daily and we cannot imagine making food without it. But there is a big threat that comes with it and excessive usage claims lakhs of lives in the world. More than a million people die with this, which is a concern.

Global health body World Health Organisation (WHO) came up with a big warning on the usage of sodium which forms the key element of Salt. The body said that people should stop over usage of sodium or else they will go through many health-related issues.

WHO said every year around 2 million people die due to excessive sodium usage. Over usage triggers blood pressure which in turn increases the risks of cardiovascular diseases. The study said that even elderly people are consuming more sodium than the prescribed limit.

The limit of sodium usage for elderly people is 5 grams. However, the average usage is around 10.78 gm. This is more than two times which is a big concern. Lifestyle and food habits should be seen as the big reason for this as we are eating a variety of foods.

While this is the situation among elders we can imagine what will be the scenes with the youngsters. They often eat junk food and fast food which comes with a lot of salt. Items like french fries and fast food will be high on salt which has a big impact on health.

Having issued warnings about sodium usage, WHO advised people to avoid such food, prefer less processed food, and use spices over salt. Salt helps us in maintaining a good BP level. But over usage is always a big issue.
