A big debate has been going on about the Lok Sabha speaker now. Probably for the first time the post is getting so much attention. The political picture is such that no side has the obsolete strength in the house. BJP fell short of the magic figure and it had to take the support from other parties.

Compared to the last elections, the opposition parties bounced back and crossed the 200 mark. With this, the stage is set for elections to elect the Speaker of the House. It is going to be a showdown between the two sides. On this occasion, a discussion is going on about how the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are elected.

Looking at the procedure, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are elected by the members of the House. The election happens as per Article 93 of the Constitution. The President fixes a date for the election. Those who get votes from 50 percent or more members of the house will become the Speaker.

The elected speaker fixes the date of election for the Deputy Speaker. If more than one person is in the race for the post then an election is held. Looking at the situation it appears that we can see an election for both posts.

Let us wait and see what happens next in the episode. The NDA alliance has more seats than the INDIA alliance so the NDA might have an advantage. However, the neutral parties would have a big role here. The political heat is still intact in the country even after the elections.
