Flash: Telangana government forms SIT on betting apps case

It is known that the government of Telangana had been going very hard on the betting apps culture that is prevalent in the state now. IPS officer VV Sajjanar has been on the job. He is the one who is running the anti-batting apps campaign and educating social media users about staying away from this antisocial activity.

On this matter, the Telangana government has now taken a big decision as it transferred the batting apps case to Special Investigation Team that has been commissioned for the job.

The directives that have been given to the concerned team from the Telangana government are as below.

The SIT shall thoroughly and expeditiously investigate all online betting cases that are specifically assigned or transferred to it.

It shall study the existing eco-system that enables and facilitates online betting/gaming and recommend necessary reforms to curb these activities.

The SIT shall evaluate legal provisions, regulations, and restrictions that can be introduced to prevent the organizing, promotion, and advertising of online betting/gaming and suggest legal action in the public interest.

It will study the role and responsibilities of Union and State agencies, including the IT Department, GST authorities, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Ministry of Home Affairs (МНА), and the Department of Prosecution, in regulating online gaming activities.

The SIT will propose suitable measures to strengthen enforcement against such activities.

The SIT shall recommend policy and regulatory changes for payment systems and financial institutions to detect and block transactions linked to illegal betting and gambling operations, and submit these recommendations to the Reserve Bank of India.

This comes shortly after several social media, influencers, and actors had come under the radar for promoting betting apps in Telangana. The likes of Vijay Deverakonda and Rana had already dissociated from the same as they proved their legality in their agreements.
