Kanche Gachibowli Issue: Supreme Court Fires on CS
The Supreme Court called the case for investigation today and passed a series of interesting orders.;

The Telangana government took up a controversial project in the form of the forest of the Kanche Gachibowli area in Hyderabad. This deforestation drive is to clear out the forest area in the Hyderabad, the central university premises and facilitate urbanisation projects here.
However, the deforestation drive was met with intense criticism and backlash from the common public, and the matter has now reached the Supreme Court of India for further investigation.
The Supreme Court called the case for investigation today and passed a series of interesting orders.
“We direct the respondent, Chief Secretary of the state of Telangana, to answer to the following queries:
1. What was the compelling urgency to undertake the developmental activities, including the removal of trees from the alleged forest area?
2. As to whether for such development activities the state has opted the environmental impact assessment certificate.
3. As to whether for felling of tress requisite permission from the appropriate authorities or under any other local statutes has been opted or not?” The statement from the Supreme Court on this matter, read a short while back.
The Supreme Court further added that a dedicated officer will be put on the duty and he will have to report the degree of the deforestation and damage done by April 16. This was one of the key judgements made by the Supreme Court today.
