In Telangana, students are getting another day off as schools and colleges will remain closed on July 23. This comes in the wake of few issues and heavy rains. The day off however is not just due to the weather but also because of the statewide bandh called by various student unions.

The student unions including the All India Students Federation (AISF) and the Students Federation of India (SFI) have called for the bandh in protest against the government's failure to address long-pending issues in the education sector. They are demanding immediate reforms and actions from the state government.

Key demands from the student unions include controlling the fees charged by private educational institutions appointing a dedicated minister to oversee educational reforms, and filling vacant teaching positions. They are also calling for the introduction of the midday meal scheme in junior colleges and for clearing all pending scholarship dues for students without any further delay. Additionally the student unions want to see improvements in basic infrastructure at all government schools and colleges in the state.

In light of the bandh, several private educational institutions have declared a holiday to prevent any untoward incidents. This decision also aims to ensure the safety and well being of students during the ongoing protests.
