These 20 seats are sour grapes for BRS in Telangana
The BRS has so far not succeeded in making a mark in Khammam district, the district with maximum number of the settler voters.
The ruling BRS may be quite strong and has been steadily improving its tally in each election. But, do you know that the party had failed to win from at least 20 seats? Yes! Despite its bulldozer majority the party had not succeeded in making a mark in these constituencies since its formation in 2001. So, effectively, the BRS is in the game in just about 95 seats out of the 119 seats in Telangana.
The BRS has so far not succeeded in making a mark in Khammam district, the district with maximum number of the settler voters. In 2014, the BRS could win only from Illendu seat, while in the 2018 election, only Khammam could be won. In Hyderabad too, the BJP did not win the Goshamahal seat till now. It is a poor third in seven of the seats in the Old City.
The party is also considered quite weak in several seats in Rangareddy district. However, it managed to win some of the seats. At the same time, KCR has encouraged defections from other parties, mainly from the Congress party, to increase his tally. In the 2018 elections, the party had won 88 seats, but improved its tally to 101 this way.
This time around, the party seems to be facing tough times in most of the seats from the Old City, where it is in alliance with the AIMIM. So, most of its candidates are non-serious candidates ony meant to cut the BJP vote. In Khammam too, the situation has not improved in any significant way.
