Mayor Nomination With Sacks of ₹2 Coins! Tirupati Sees a Different Kind of Political Show

Andhra Pradesh's local body election season is bringing out some unusual political scenes. In Tirupati, a group of independent candidates reportedly arrived to file their nominations for the Mayor post with sacks full of ₹2 coins, turning an otherwise routine process into an interesting spectacle.
Around 10 independent candidates reportedly reached the nomination centre on Saturday. Instead of carrying the required deposit amount in currency notes, they brought it in the form of ₹2 coins packed inside sacks.
Candidates have to pay a prescribed deposit while submitting their nomination papers. As a result, officials at the centre had to receive and count the coins before proceeding with the paperwork. But counting a large number of coins was no easy task, and the process reportedly took considerable time.
With the counting moving slowly, the candidates were asked to wait in a queue at the premises. What should have been a regular nomination exercise turned into a scene that caught the attention of people present there.
In politics, candidates often try different ways to attract public attention. This time, however, it was not a big rally, a flashy vehicle or a grand show of strength. It was sacks of ₹2 coins that became the talking point.
As political activity gathers pace ahead of the local body elections, Tirupati's coin-filled nomination episode has added an unexpected twist to the proceedings. Whether it was a planned statement or simply an unusual way of paying the deposit, the sight certainly made the nomination process memorable.
