According to the latest post from an Indian origin individual, who had an adverse situation upon his domestic travel in the United States, he was thoroughly asked and screened by the authorities even upon domestic travel.

As posted by the Indian guy lI had an interesting situation today at DFW Airport (Terminal D) during the security checkpoint where USCIS officers with a security dog were randomly stopping passengers, and I was taken aside, asked about my visa status (H-1B), shown that their system listed my 1-94 as F-1.

He explained his change of status last year, informed them he didn't have my passport since it was a domestic flight and was traveling with only my Real ID, and then showed a soft copy of my I-797A on my phone, which they thoroughly checked and verified before telling him he was good to go.

All ended well, but even for domestic travel within the U.S., it's always better to carry soft copies (or originals if possible) of important immigration documents like your 1-797, 1-94, and passport, because you never know when you might need them, he concluded in this electorate post.
