The method of operations of the immigration control authorities in the United States has been a matter of question for a long time now. This got elevated further when the ICE had allegedly detained a five year old child in the United States recently.
A shocking incident from the United States has sparked widespread concern after immigration officials detained a five year old boy along with his father. The incident took place in Columbia Heights, Minnesota, when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers stopped the family as they were returning home from the child’s preschool.
According to school authorities and community members, the child was inside a running car when officers approached the family. Both the boy and his father were taken into custody and later moved to a family detention facility in Texas.
School officials claimed the child was asked to knock on the door of the house to check if anyone else was inside, an act they strongly criticised and described as deeply disturbing.
The child’s school administration said this was not an isolated case and mentioned that several students from the same area had been affected by recent immigration actions. They also stated that there were adults willing to take responsibility for the child, but officials refused to release him.
The Department of Homeland Security responded by saying the operation was aimed at the father and not the child. Officials maintained that procedures were followed and denied intentionally involving the child. The incident has triggered outrage across the country and renewed debate over immigration enforcement and the treatment of children.
