Reports about religion being linked to the United States war with Iran have recently created a big debate. Some complaints from American soldiers say that a few military commanders used religious language while talking about the war.
According to a report shared with the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, several US troops said their commanders told them the Iran conflict was part of “God’s divine plan.”
In one briefing, a commander allegedly said that former US President Donald Trump had been anointed by Jesus to start a war with Iran that would trigger Armageddon, a biblical battle believed by some Christians to happen at the end of the world.
The foundation says it received more than 200 complaints from soldiers across different branches of the US military, including the Army, Air Force and Marines. These complaints came from dozens of military bases. Many soldiers felt uncomfortable because such religious comments were made during official briefings.
Some officers reportedly referred to passages from the Book of Revelation in the Bible and suggested that the conflict with Iran could lead to the return of Jesus Christ. This interpretation has caused concern among experts who say the military should stay neutral in matters of religion.
However, the Pentagon has not confirmed these claims. US officials say the strikes on Iran were based on security concerns and threats from Iran’s missile programs, not religion.
