The United States immigration department has been constantly changing the rules and regulations regarding the issuance of new visa policies and they have brought in a new change now.

Starting from September 2, 2025, most people applying for a U.S. non immigrant visa will need to go for an in-person interview. This includes almost everyone, even children under 14 and adults over 79, who earlier could often skip the interview.

This is a major change. For the past few years, many people were allowed to get a visa without visiting the U.S. embassy. This was helpful during the COVID-19 pandemic. But now, the U.S. government has decided to bring back the interview rule for better security checks.

However, some people can still get a visa without an interview. These include those applying for diplomatic visas (A-1, A-2, C-3), staff of international organizations (G-1 to G-4), and NATO employees. Very few exceptions will be made for age groups under 14 and over 79.

If you are planning to apply for a U.S. visa after September 2, you should be ready for an interview. This change may also mean longer wait times for appointments and visa processing.

It’s a good idea to check the official U.S. embassy or consulate website in your country for the latest updates and booking details
