Does the US Have Any Solutions To Control Gun Violence?
Going by the current trend, it looks like the country will not have a good time with the violence.
The United States continues to struggle with gun violence. For the past few years, gun violence incidents are increasing massively, raising many fears and concerns. The data says that in 2023 alone not less than 400 mass shootings were reported. We can imagine the count of victims in these incidents be it dead or injured.
Going by the current trend, it looks like the country will not have a good time with the violence. The frequency of these incidents is such that people got used to it. A few days back, a teenage student created a ruckus. He opened fire injuring a few fellow students and killed himself.
In the wake of the deadly trend, US Vice-President Kamala Hariss expressed her concerns about this and said that they have solutions for this like background checks and renewing the assault weapons ban. She said this on social media.
Her comments started a debate on whether the US has the solutions to deal with gun violence or not. Every Time such an incident hits the news we hear big debates on gun ban and making the laws strict. But the process seems to be lengthy and complicated.
Recently a law which prohibits carrying firearms in public places came into existence. While the bill has the threat of appeal in upper courts it can be seen as a big step. However, there is no clarity on what impact the law would have on people in making them stop carrying firearms.
Another aspect is that getting a weapon is very easy in the US is what many say. Youngsters, even teenagers can get a gun. With this, we can understand how easy the process is. If anything needs to be done then the first arrow has to be on this.
Public participation is a key aspect of this. The administration cannot do anything without their support. If a voting process is started they should vote in favour or else things would be tough. The administration should make people understand the problems with gun violence and how they should work collectively to deal with this.
Considering all these factors many doubt whether the US has any solutions to deal with gun violence. If the Joe Biden administration can do anything big it would reflect in the next polls. If he is voted to power he can continue the efforts. Let us wait and see.
