Vande Bharat is the premium segment of Indian railways and this train system is widely being used amongst the common population these days. However, there’s a new controversy happening on this matter now and here’s a look into the same. A controversy over food quality on the Vande Bharat Sleeper train has gone viral on social media, triggering fresh criticism of catering standards on premium Indian Railways services.

The issue started after passengers shared images online comparing meals served during the train’s inaugural run with those provided on regular commercial journeys. According to the viral posts, the food served after launch appeared less appealing, smaller in portion, and not in line with the premium image promoted during the inauguration.

Several passengers claimed the meals were poorly prepared, with some alleging stale food and an unpleasant smell. Videos showing passengers refusing to eat and returning the food to train staff further intensified the outrage. Many users questioned whether special arrangements were made only for the launch event to create a positive impression, while regular passengers were left disappointed.

IRCTC responded to the backlash by stating that there is no difference in food quality or quantity between inaugural and commercial runs. Officials said meals are prepared by authorized catering partners and quality checks are conducted regularly. However, the clarification has not fully convinced passengers, as online criticism continues.

The controversy has also widened into a debate over the vegetarian only menu on the sleeper version of the train. Political leaders and passengers from eastern and northeastern regions have demanded food choices that reflect local eating habits. Overall, the episode has renewed calls for stricter monitoring and consistent food standards on premium trains.
