One of the biggest names in Tamil Nadu politics is turning out to be Thalapathy Vijay, who is contesting in the upcoming Assembly election in what is his first electoral campaign in Tamil Nadu.

Actor turned politician Vijay, contesting from Perambur, has once again come under scrutiny over discrepancies in his election affidavit.

In the nomination papers he submitted on March 30, Vijay declared his total assets as Rs 404 crore. However, in an additional affidavit filed on April 4, he revised the figures and stated that he owns movable assets worth Rs 410 crore.

The change in asset details within a short span has raised questions, as this is not the first time inconsistencies have appeared in his filings. Officials noted that the revised affidavit was submitted after the errors in the earlier document came to light.

Sources point out that Vijay has previously faced a similar issue in Tiruchchi East, where an affidavit with incorrect details had been filed in the past.

The repetition of such mistakes has triggered fresh discussion in political circles about the accuracy and diligence exercised while submitting statutory election documents.

Election affidavits are considered crucial legal declarations, requiring candidates to provide precise details of their assets and liabilities. The latest revision by Vijay has now drawn attention to the need for careful verification before filing such documents, especially during a closely watched election contest.
