It’s already known that Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay is soon venturing in politics in his first ever electoral campaign in Tamil Nadu. Vijay, known as “Thalapathy” and celebrated as a powerhouse superstar on the silver screen, is now looking to make an equally loud impact in the political arena.

After founding the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party, he has gained a different level of popularity across Tamil Nadu. Many people who are seeking political change are cheering for TVK, and the youth in particular appear to be extending strong support to Vijay.

Against this backdrop, Vijay is confident that his party will certainly form the government in the upcoming elections. He has also made it clear that he does not want to be seen as a kingmaker but as the king himself.

With the election season approaching, Vijay has been conducting regular meetings with party leaders and carefully crafting strategies. There is strong talk within party circles that he may contest from not just one but two constituencies. As a first time contestant, this plan is believed to be aimed at proving his political strength while also ensuring a safer electoral ground. Party insiders say that if the party chief contests from two key regions, it could also benefit TVK candidates in those areas.

Reports suggest that the two seats Vijay is considering are Virugambakkam in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli East, both considered strong fortresses of the ruling DMK. Vijay is said to believe that if he is going to strike, it should be at the very heart of the opponent’s base. By selecting these constituencies, he is reportedly aiming to showcase his party’s capability in urban centers.

Vijay is also believed to be targeting young voters, especially those who will be exercising their franchise for the first time. Given his strong following among the youth, the party is confident of registering an impressive victory.

Virugambakkam has long been seen as a DMK bastion, and by challenging the party there while also choosing Tiruchirappalli East as a second seat, Vijay’s intention is said to be to signal that TVK has strength across the state.

Both constituencies currently have influential leaders from the DMK, with sitting MLAs AMV Prabhakar Raja and Inigo S. Irudayaraj. A direct contest against them is expected to make the elections highly dramatic. TVK is also preparing for major political activity in these regions soon.

Looking at political history in Andhra Pradesh, Chiranjeevi contested from two constituencies in 2009 on behalf of the Praja Rajyam Party. He lost in Palakollu but won in Tirupati.

In the 2019 elections, Pawan Kalyan contested from Gajuwaka in Visakhapatnam and Bhimavaram but faced defeat in both seats. However, in 1983, NTR founded the Telugu Desam Party and contested from Gudivada and Tirupati, winning both and leading his party to a historic victory.

Like them, Vijay also comes from the film industry, and his decision to contest two seats has become a major talking point. There is growing debate over whether he can achieve a grand political triumph and emerge as another NTR in Indian politics.
