It is already known that the government of India is holding the ongoing AI summit in Delhi in a very prestigious manner. This was precisely when something extremely interesting was observed today, and it has something to do with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well.

At the high-profile India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, global artificial intelligence leaders lined up on stage with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a symbolic group photo promoting unity and cooperation in AI development.

The summit, running February 16-20 at Bharat Mandapam, has drawn hundreds of tech executives, researchers and innovators from around the world.

As cameras rolled, most leaders linked hands and raised them in a classic group gesture. But the moment that stole the spotlight wasn’t a policy announcement it was the awkward scene between OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.

Standing side by side, the two tech rivals refused to hold hands with each other, instead lifting their arms separately in what instantly became a viral clip on social media.

The image triggered laughter and memes online, with users joking that “nothing not even the Prime Minister of India can make Sam and Dario hold hands.”

The moment quickly came to symbolize the ongoing rivalry between their companies, rooted in philosophical differences over AI safety, commercialisation and strategy. Amodei left OpenAI in 2021 to co-found Anthropic, and the two firms have since competed fiercely in shaping the future of artificial intelligence.
