In Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh, a woman visiting the police station for passport verification was mistakenly shot in the head by a Sub-Inspector (SI) while he was cleaning his gun. The incident, captured on CCTV, occurred around 2:50 pm.

The woman, identified as Ishrat, accompanied by her son, entered the police station. A police official handed over a pistol to SI Manoj Sharma for cleaning. While handling the gun, an accidental shot was fired, causing Ishrat to collapse.

She was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in critical condition, with the bullet still lodged in her head. Doctors are assessing whether surgery is necessary.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) confirmed the bullet hit the back of Ishrat's head, leading to the immediate suspension of the SI. An investigation is ongoing with strict measures promised against the negligent SI, who is currently on the run.

The authorities assured they are taking action and seeking the inspector's arrest while ensuring proper medical care for the injured woman.

The incident has sparked outrage, and a criminal case has been registered against the responsible officer for his negligence.
