Not only this, but the number of women-led startups that became unicorns in 2020 also increased compared to five years back
The start-up trend has picked up in India in the past few years. Those who have unique ideas that can be pushed into business start their own start-ups and turn into entrepreneurs. The big companies and brands that are enjoying good run were once start-ups and had humble beginnings.
Now a new aspect of start-ups has come out which says that Women's leadership had increased by 18 percent in start-ups and they serve as a platform for women to prove their capabilities which is a good thing. Having a worthy platform is key in proving one's ability.
Women in India's Startup Ecosystem Report (WISER) which traces the journey of women in the Startup arena revealed sensational things and said that the number of start-ups that are led by women increased significantly in the past five years.
As much as 18 percent of start-ups led by women have risen in the country in the past five years. Back in 2017, there were only around 6000 startups in the country. Cut to 2022, the number went up to over 80,000 seeing a growth of 18 percent.
Not only this, but the number of women-led startups that became unicorns in 2020 also increased compared to five years back. From eight percent, the count went to 17 percent.
The observers say that the growth in women-led startups in the country is a positive sign and it would not be a big surprise if the count even gets bigger.
This is the testimony of Nari Shakti in the startup ecosystem. In just five years, the start-up count increased and companies that became unicorns also increased.
However, the report also says that there are no equal opportunities for both men and women and they lag in getting equal opportunities. The report also says that despite women starting careers along with men they get promotions and increments late compared to men.
