It is already known that the United States administration has been going particularly hard against the international immigration population, and they are cracking down further now. This time it is the green card holders who are under the pump.
According to the latest developments, the U.S. Supreme Court just sided with the Trump administration in a 6-3 decision allowing the Department of Homeland Security to treat green card holders and lawful permanent residents as seeking admission. They would allow the USA authorities to strip or suspend their legal status when they leave the country and attempt to return to the U.S. while facing criminal charges.
Along with this, the United States authorities are reportedly taking another significant decision as well now. The U.S. is proposing a sharp increase in citizenship application fees, a move that could disproportionately impact Indian immigrants.
The proposal would raise the naturalization fee by about 75% and eliminate fee waivers for many applicants, significantly increasing the cost of becoming a U.S. citizen. With Indians among the largest groups of green card holders pursuing U.S. citizenship, the higher fees could create an additional financial hurdle for thousands of eligible applicants.
