It is already known that the United States administration authorities have started to crack down heavily on the immigration population, and this includes the Indian working community as well. And now let us have a look at the volume of the Indian individuals who had been reportedly deported from the United States last year.

Over 3,800 Indian nationals were deported from the United States in 2025, the Government of India informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a question by Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala.

According to official data, 3,414 deportees were processed through the Washington channel till mid-December last year, with additional figures brought in from various Indian consulates across the US including New York, Atlanta, Houston, San Francisco and Seattle.

These deportations form part of broader enforcement against irregular migration, especially those entering the US through unauthorized pathways often referred to as the “donkey route” or “Dunki route.” The Indian government stressed that all deportations were carried out only after clear verification of Indian nationality. It also said that it maintains ongoing coordination with US authorities to ensure humane treatment of deportees, raising concerns particularly about the use of restraints on vulnerable groups such as women and children.

Based on testimonies from returnees, Indian agencies have registered multiple cases and launched investigations against illegal recruitment agents and trafficking networks believed to facilitate unlawful migration. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasised priority on immigrant safety and continues to issue advisories to protect Indian citizens abroad.
