The Indian working community in United States is being dealt with multiple shocks under the Donald Trump administration. And now we have another detrimental, develop development in connection with the working visa mechanism.STEM OPT students in the United States often face tense situations when company layoffs happen suddenly.

Many international students wait for months to get their STEM OPT approval so they can continue working after their regular OPT period ends. But when a layoff happens during this waiting time, it creates fear and confusion about their legal status in the country.

If a student loses their job while the STEM OPT application is still processing, they do not immediately fall out of status. They are allowed to stay in the United States while waiting for the result of their application.

However, they must start looking for a new employer as soon as possible because STEM OPT students are required to work with an approved employer. If they find a new job, they must update their details in the SEVIS system and inform their school so their record stays active.

The United States gives STEM OPT students a total unemployment limit of ninety days during regular OPT and sixty days during STEM OPT. So even if they lose a job, they still have some time to search for another one. Still, the pressure is high because companies are hiring less during layoff seasons.Overall, students must stay calm, track their unemployment days, and quickly look for a new role to protect their status.
