as we had been extensively reporting in the recent past, the number of shocking fatal crimes against the Indian population in the United States has been on a constant rice. We have another one such incident now that happened in 2023.
A Texas court sentenced 19-year-old Luke Garrett Resecker to 65 years in prison for causing a car crash that killed six Indian-origin people in December 2023.
The tragic accident took place on U.S. Highway 67 near Cleburne, when Resecker, driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a minivan carrying the family. The victims included four adults and two children aged 9 and 10, all from India. They were returning from a trip to the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center when the accident occurred.
Investigators revealed that Resecker was under the influence of THC, the psychoactive compound found in marijuana.
Police recovered marijuana, a vape pen, and THC wax from his vehicle. Toxicology tests later confirmed he had active THC in his system at the time of the crash. The impact of the collision was so severe that six passengers in the minivan died instantly, while one survivor was left paralyzed.
During the trial, prosecutors argued that Resecker’s reckless behavior and drug use led to the devastating loss of innocent lives. But the court understood the gravity of the situation and sentenced him to 65 years in prison.
