The President of United States, Donald Trump has been making it increasingly clear that he does not tolerate the international population in the country. In fact, he is starting to make things all the more concerning and destructible for the Indian population in the United States.

The United States government is planning new rules that may change how long international students can stay in the country.

As of now, students on visas like F-1 or J-1 can remain in the U.S. for the full length of their course, as long as they are enrolled. But the new proposal from the Department of Homeland Security suggests putting a fixed limit, most likely up to four years.

If this rule becomes official, students whose courses take more than four years or who want to stay for Optional Practical Training (OPT) will have to apply for extensions.

Experts say this will create extra paperwork and stress for students, and also increase the workload for U.S. immigration offices. Universities fear that many talented students may choose other countries for their education because of the uncertainty.

The proposal has already cleared White House review and will soon be open for public comments. This move comes as part of broader changes by the Trump administration, which has already taken steps like tightening visa checks and even blocking some universities from enrolling international students.

If implemented, the new system could affect thousands of Indian students and others studying in America.
