Later, with the arrival of digital platforms, people started relying on YouTube clips and tweets to catch up with the winners’ speeches and other big moments. But the way we are going to watch the Academy Awards is about to change in a big way.
Video streaming giant YouTube has bagged the streaming rights to the Oscars, giving a high to all the YouTube-dependent movie lovers. But the twist is that, currently, the rights are with the ABC group, and they have rights until the 100th Academy Awards Event, which will happen in 2028.
Which means technically YouTube will be streaming the Oscars live only from 2029, and they have acquired rights till 2033 only. Currently, the 98th edition of the Oscars is supposed to happen in March 2026, and one has to wait for three more years to watch everything live on YouTube. But in select countries, the Oscars live event is available on YouTube even now, through the ABC channels.
Meanwhile, Amazon and Netflix are currently bringing many Oscar-winning and nominated films to their platforms, thus attracting the Indian audience big time when the Oscar season is just around the corner.
