Actor and DMDK Leader Vijayakanth Passes Away at 71

Actor and DMDK leader Vijayakanth, aged 71, passed away at a hospital in Chennai. He had been using a ventilator due to Covid-19.

The hospital said, "Captain Vijayakanth was on a ventilator because of pneumonia. Sadly, he passed away this morning on December 28, 2023, despite the doctors' efforts."

He went to the hospital on Tuesday for a routine check-up. Initially, his party mentioned he was healthy and would return home after the tests.

Earlier, on November 20, he was admitted to another hospital for breathing problems.

Vijayakanth was well-known for his successful acting career in 154 movies before entering politics. He established the DMDK party and served as a Member of Legislative Assembly twice.

His political highlight was being the Opposition Leader in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016.

In recent times, Vijayakanth had health issues, which reduced his active involvement in politics.
