Her comments expressed while speaking to the settled Telugu population in Tamil Nadu during a program sparked the uproar.
"Telugu Is my step," Kasturi said, underscoring her strong ties to Telugu culture. I consider all Telugu people to be my family. She bemoaned how her statements were misunderstood and urged the Telugu community to ignore the false information spread by the Tamil media.
She further said that the DMK party was purposefully distorting her remarks in order to damage her reputation and sow discord. Falsely accusing her of speaking against Telugu people, Kasturi said that negative propaganda was being spread.
In a recent political address, Kasturi made the specific remark that sparked the controversy: Telugu people had gone to Tamil Nadu 300 years ago to work as harem servants. Both the Tamil and Telugu communities have strongly condemned and expressed outrage over this comment.
