Blockbuster Dhurandhar Facing Copy Allegations: What’s Next?
In response, director Aditya Dhar and his team strongly denied the allegations, asserting that the film’s story is entirely original.
By: Tupaki Desk | 4 April 2026 3:42 PM ISTOne of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Indian cinema is currently running in theatres in the form of Dhurandhar 2. While the film is having a super successful run at the ticket counter, something detrimental is happening beyond the screen.
While Dhurandhar The Revenge continues its blockbuster run at the box office, a copyright dispute has emerged. Director Santosh Kumar alleged that the film’s story was taken from his script titled ‘D-Saheb’, claiming that the makers used his original idea without permission.
In response, director Aditya Dhar and his team strongly denied the allegations, asserting that the film’s story is entirely original. They have reportedly sent legal notices to Santosh Kumar, making it clear that they will defend their work in court if necessary.
Santosh, however, has stated that he has supporting evidence from the Writers’ Association and is prepared to pursue legal action to protect his claim. The dispute highlights the ongoing tensions in the film industry over intellectual property, especially when a high-grossing movie is involved.
Despite the controversy, the film continues to dominate theaters, earning over ₹1,500 crore at the box office. Audiences have embraced the action-packed thriller, and it remains one of the highest-grossing films in recent times.
This case is expected to unfold in the coming weeks as both parties prepare their legal arguments. While fans enjoy the cinematic spectacle, the copyright dispute serves as a reminder of the sensitive issues surrounding story ownership in the industry.
