But Akhil Akkineni made a different choice after Agent crashed at the box office. Producer Anil Sunkara revealed that Akhil refused to take even a single rupee of his remuneration, keeping a promise he had made before the release.
Agent, directed by Surender Reddy, came out on April 23, 2023. It was made with a huge budget and created a lot of excitement, but it ended up being a big failure. The financial loss was taken by the producer, Anil Sunkara, who later said that if Akhil had taken his money, the situation would have been even worse. However, Akhil kept his promise and chose not to take his salary, which is a rare thing in the film industry.
This decision has caught attention across film circles. At a time when most stars only look at their fee, Akhil’s gesture is being seen as both honest and responsible. It may not change the fate of Agent, but it has added respect to his name. Many fans feel that this move shows maturity and awareness about the risks producers take.
For now, Akhil has shifted focus to his next film Lenin, set in the backdrop of Rayalaseema. Expectations are already building around the project. On the personal side, he also recently married his love Zainab, stepping into a new phase of life. Professionally, after the failure of Agent, his decision to give up his remuneration might just mark the start of a stronger chapter in his career.
