But the real story turned out to be Alappuzha Gymkhana, a film featuring the Premam hero, which surpassed everyone’s expectations on day one.
While Bazooka earned ₹2.21 Crore, it couldn’t match Alappuzha Gymkhana’s ₹2.70 Crore. Maranamass, with its talented cast and director Basil Joseph, managed only ₹1.06 Crore. The surprise? Alappuzha Gymkhana isn’t led by established stars, but fresh talent, including Naslen K. Gafoor, who grabbed attention and dominated the box office.
The day proved that Malayalam cinema is changing. Big names don’t automatically guarantee success anymore. Audiences are seeking something new, and Alappuzha Gymkhana gave them just that.
The shift is clear new talent is making waves. The old guard, like Mammootty, may still hold power, but the real energy in Mollywood is coming from those just starting out.
