Alia Bhatt, who made her Telugu debut in Rajamouli’s blockbuster RRR, is now set to take a bold turn in her career. She will be part of a young-adult film meant only for audiences above 18, but this won’t be hitting theatres. Instead, it’s being made for Amazon Prime Video, with Alia not just acting but also producing it under her Eternal Sunshine Pictures banner, alongside Chalkboard Entertainment.

The film will mark the directorial debut of Sriti Mukherjee, a relative of Brahmastra and War 2 director Ayan Mukherjee. The idea for the film came from Alia herself. She has always loved Wake Up Sid, one of Ranbir Kapoor’s most-loved films, and suggested to Sriti how the story could be reimagined from a bold, female perspective. That conversation grew into a full script, set mostly in a college backdrop with fresh faces leading the cast. Shooting begins in October.

Alia’s journey as a producer started with Darlings in 2022 for Netflix. She is also producing Difficult Daughters, directed by her mother Soni Razdan. This new project will be her third as a producer. As an actress, she’s busy with Love and War, reuniting with Ranbir Kapoor for a March 2025 release, and Chamunda, produced by the makers of Stree 2.

There’s also talk that director Nag Ashwin has approached her for Kalki 2, though nothing is confirmed. The untitled young-adult film is expected to stream next year in multiple languages, including Telugu. With this move, Alia seems ready to explore bolder content and push boundaries, both as an actress and a producer.
