Allari Naresh Explains Why He Quit Comedy Movies

You know how a cricketer sometimes takes a break from T20s just to focus on the long game? That’s pretty much what Allari Naresh did. For years, he was the face of comedy in Telugu cinema, Sudigadu, Kithakithalu, Bendu Apparao, the list just keeps going. He owned that space. Then, out of nowhere, he started doing these intense, emotional films. Fans began wondering, Wait, what happened to our funny guy? Naresh finally spoke about it during the trailer launch of his new movie 12A Railway Colony.

He laughed while saying it, but the point hit home. Ten years ago, everyone kept asking me to stop comedy and do something serious. Now the same people are asking when I’ll do comedy again! It’s ironic, right? Naresh said it wasn’t about quitting or rejecting comedy altogether, he just wanted to see what else he could do. The same energy that made him funny also pushed him to take risks, to see if he could pull off roles that didn’t rely on punchlines.

The best part? He’s not done with comedy at all. Naresh confirmed that once he’s done with 12A Railway Colony and another serious film titled Alcohol, he’s jumping straight into two comedy projects. It feels good to go back to that vibe again, he said, a bit nostalgic but cheerful. You could tell he missed that easy chaos of his old films, the silly jokes, the timing, the fun on set.

So, turns out, he never really left comedy. He just stepped away for a breather. Tried a few new things. Got some applause for being serious. And now, he’s coming back to what feels most like home, the laughs. As Naresh said it himself with a grin, It’s about time the theatres echoed with laughter again.
