His comments have become a major talking point in the industry especially at a time when many filmmakers depend on digital platforms to recover a part of their investment.
Speaking about the current situation, Allu Aravind said, "The days of makers believing they will recover half of their investment from OTT are gone. OTT platforms are very choosy about which films to buy."
According to him, streaming platforms are no longer buying every movie for huge amounts. Instead, they are carefully selecting films based on factors such as content quality, star cast, director, production value and audience appeal. This has made the OTT market much more competitive than before.
In recent years, OTT platforms played a major role in the film business. During and after the pandemic, several movies skipped theatrical releases and went directly to streaming services. As a result, many producers started seeing OTT deals as a reliable source of revenue. However, the situation has changed significantly now.
Allu Aravind also explained that established production houses enjoy certain advantages in the market. He said, "Certain privileges are there for producers who consistently deliver hit films. They respect those banners, and they pay a bit more."
Production companies with a strong track record of delivering successful films often receive better offers from OTT platforms. Streaming services prefer working with banners that have already earned the trust of audiences.
Industry experts believe that the OTT business has become more focused on quality rather than quantity. Platforms are investing their money carefully and choosing projects that they believe can attract subscribers and generate strong viewership.
Allu Aravind's comments serve as an important message for filmmakers. In today's market, producers cannot depend entirely on OTT deals to recover their budgets. Instead, they need to focus on creating engaging content that can perform well both in theatres and on digital platforms.
