Anantha Sriram Criticizes Kalki 2898 AD Again, Questions Karna’s Portrayal

Kalki 2898 AD starring Prabhas and directed by Nag Ashwin became one of the biggest Indian films after its release. The movie impressed audiences with its grand visuals, strong performances, and futuristic storytelling. However, it also received criticism from some people for the way it presented characters and events from the Mahabharata. Now, popular lyricist Anantha Sriram has once again shared his views on the film.

In a recent interview, Anantha Sriram said that epics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana should not be changed for cinematic purposes. According to him, filmmakers should present the stories as they were originally written by sage Vyasa instead of making major changes to important characters or events. He believes that changing the original story may create confusion among viewers.

He especially spoke about the portrayal of Karna in Kalki 2898 AD. Anantha Sriram said that the Mahabharata describes Arjuna as the greatest warrior, but the movie gives more importance to Karna. He questioned whether it is right to present Karna as greater than Arjuna. He also said that some scenes shown in the film are not part of the original Mahabharata and may give audiences a different understanding of the epic.

During the interview, Anantha Sriram was also asked if he would write songs for Kalki 2. He gave an interesting reply. He said he is ready to write songs if he is offered the project and paid for his work. However, he made it clear that he would not write lyrics that unnecessarily glorify Karna. He added that he would discuss such creative differences with the director if such a situation comes.

This is not the first time Anantha Sriram has expressed such opinions. Earlier too, he had criticized Kalki 2898 AD during a public event. He said that changing Hindu epics only for entertainment is not something he supports, and his comments created a huge discussion on social media.

Meanwhile, Kalki 2898 AD continues to be a massive success worldwide. The film features Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone in important roles. The sequel is currently under production, and Anantha Sriram’s latest comments have once again become a hot topic on social media.
