Veteran Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor recently revealed that he continues to earn money from the Oscar winning film Slumdog Millionaire even nearly two decades after its release.
The actor made the surprising disclosure while speaking at the India Today Conclave 2026 in New Delhi.
Anil Kapoor shared that he had received another payment from the film just a day before appearing at the event. According to him, the most recent cheque was worth around £3,000, which is roughly over ₹3 lakh. The actor said he openly mentioned the amount because he pays all his taxes and had nothing to hide.
Kapoor further revealed that the cumulative earnings from the film are expected to reach nearly £500,000, joking that the movie has effectively made him a millionaire through royalties.
He clarified that he never demanded these payments from the producers and that the profit sharing arrangement was offered by the film’s team.
The 2008 film, directed by Danny Boyle, became a global sensation and won eight awards at the Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Kapoor played the role of the charismatic game show host Prem Kumar, while Dev Patel portrayed the lead character Jamal Malik.
Kapoor also revealed that he initially agreed to work on the film without charging his usual fee because he wanted to learn from the experience and collaborate with an international team.
