Even Anil Ravipudi Is Doing Ramayana: Will It Work?

Director Anil Ravipudi has established a strong reputation as a specialist in commercial entertainment, particularly with his consistent Sankranti hits. Despite facing criticism for his template-style approach, he continues to deliver box office success, which is why the industry calls him a ‘hit machine’. As it has come out already, he’s now getting ready to do an animation film as well apart from his next Sankranthi movie.

Reports are coming out that Anil is reportedly planning a film based on Ramayana. Not a regular film, but an animated version, bankrolled by KVN Productions. That itself is a surprising shift. A director known for fun entertainers stepping into a mythological space is not something many expected.

If you look at the current trend, Ramayana is already being explored by multiple filmmakers. The big one right now is Ramayana starring Ranbir Kapoor. With such large-scale versions already in the pipeline, the space is getting crowded. So naturally, the question is simple. Will there be space for another Ramayana, that too from a director known for comedy entertainers?

In the past, we have seen how directors struggle when they don’t reinvent. Someone like Sreenu Vaitla couldn’t sustain once his formula got repetitive. Anil seems to be aware of that risk and is now trying to explore something new through animation. But then, he should have picked up something other than the Ramayana, is what many feel.
