MSG Budget: How Anil Ravipudi Did It?

For the last few years, Anil Ravipudi has been one of the most consistent film make-up in Telugu cinema, and he had been coming up with historic blockbusters that have been making money. And now we get a clear indication of the kind of brilliant that Anil has, and the way in which he fosters his producers.

As revealed by Anil himself, his recent film with Chiranjeevi, MSG was initially planned as a compact film with a controlled budget of ₹25 crore. The idea was to keep the scale tight while focusing on strong presentation and content. However, things did not go exactly as planned during production.

A major setback came when unexpected rain damaged an expensive song set. Since the set was crucial for the film, the team had no option but to rebuild it completely. This alone pushed the budget higher and disturbed the shooting schedule. Soon after, a strike created further complications, especially with dates. As a result, the shoot had to be postponed by nearly five days. These delays meant additional spending on locations, crew, equipment and logistics. Every extra day on set added pressure to the production budget. What was supposed to be a smooth and short schedule slowly turned into a longer and more expensive process.

Because of these unavoidable issues, the overall making cost increased by another ₹3 to ₹5 crore. In the end, MSG’s total production cost settled in the range of ₹28 to ₹30 crore. Despite the hurdles, the team managed to complete the film without compromising on quality. The fact that Anil could execute such a big project with a senior Hero Chiranjeevi on such a tight budget is a major discussion topic. He has again shown why he is a producer, friendly Director and the way in which his films work extremely well at the ticket counter.
