Annapurna Studios Losing Grip on Storytelling?

By: Shanaz B Syed | 7 Sept 2026 11:20 AM ISTOf late, the film production houses that have once delivered stunning movies and sure-shot blockbusters have started to lose their charm. At first, we saw Suresh Productions produce a string of movies after the Covid2020 pandemic, but almost all of them ended up as disasters. Here comes Annapurna Studios, which is going down the same path now.
Apparently, Annapurna Studios stopped producing movies a long time ago, except for backing the movies of Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya and Akhil. However, with Lenin, things seem to be working for him, but then the small-budget Pallaburusu, expected to do wonders like Balagam, has completely misfired. Then came Allari Naresh’s Rambha Urvasi Menaka, whose content is more like mimicking 90s-grade cinema, and has further dented Annapurna’s stature.
Even though the likes of Allari Naresh say that many, including Nagarjuna, Supriya, and others from Annapurna Studio, listen to the narration before greenlighting a film, these movies aren’t working. Some say that all the heads at Annapurna have lost their grip on storytelling somehow, and that’s why they are unable to pick up movies that work.
Well, a rough patch is common for heroes and producers, so hope Annapurna Studios will bounce back soon.
