He recently shared his concern about the limited number of theatre shows being given to Indian films, while a popular Hollywood movie continues to receive more screen space and better show timings.
At present, many films are competing for audiences at the box office. Several new releases have arrived in theatres, making the competition even tougher. In such a situation, Kashyap feels that local films are not getting enough opportunities to reach viewers.
Sharing his thoughts on social media, the director said that he understands why audiences are excited to watch the Hollywood film Obsession. The movie has become a major success and is attracting large crowds. However, he believes that Indian films should also receive proper support from theatre owners.
According to Kashyap, movies such as Bandar, Main Vaapas Aaunga, Sing Geetham, and Governor are struggling to get suitable show timings. He pointed out that some of these films have only one or two shows a day in certain cities, while Obsession is being screened several times throughout the day.
The director questioned how the Indian film industry can grow if local productions are not given equal importance. He stressed that audiences should have more opportunities to watch homegrown films in theatres.
Kashyap's own film Bandar has received praise from critics and movie lovers. The film tells the story of an actor and musician who becomes involved in a serious legal case. Despite positive reviews, the movie has found it difficult to secure enough theatre screenings.
Meanwhile, Obsession continues its successful run at the box office. The horror film has attracted a large audience and has earned impressive collections since its release.
