When the film “Chhaava” featuring Vicky Kaushal in the role of Chatrapathi Sambhaji Maharaj hit cinemas
By: Shanaz B Syed | 17 Jan 2026 6:06 PM ISTWhen the film “Chhaava” featuring Vicky Kaushal in the role of Chatrapathi Sambhaji Maharaj hit cinemas, many didn’t expect that the movie would mint ₹800 crores gross in its full run at the Box Office.
That resounding success of Chhaava is actually credited to the cinematic brilliance of the film, as it shows how Mughal king Aurangzeb tortured his subjects in the name of religion. But then there are arguments that the movie is propaganda by the right-wingers. Adding more to this, now the film’s music composer AR Rahman made some sensational comments, irking the lovers of the movie.
In an interview, AR Rahman stated that the Chhaava movie is divisive, but he feels honoured to score for a movie that tells the story of Chatrapathi Sambhaji Maharaj. He stated that art has the power to heal up things, but these days people are using it to divide people. Well, while AR Rahman’s comments might have poured like honey into the ears of leftists, they are irking others.
When Rahman scored for the film, if he thinks that the movie’s content is being divisive, then he should have stopped working on the movie, they say. The star composer is getting trolled for his comments right now.
