Interesting, when Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman got picked up for Ram Charan’s Peddi movie, not many have a positive opinion. However, the success of the song Chikiri Chikiri, composed by Mozart of Madras, suggests that he will be approached by many more Telugu stars now.

Strong buzz in Tollywood circles suggests that AR Rahman is being considered for Megastar Chiranjeevi’s next film, tentatively referred to as #Mega158, which will be directed by KS Bobby of Waltair Veerayya fame. If this collaboration materialises, it would mark the first-ever musical partnership between Chiranjeevi and AR Rahman.

Back then, had Megastar agreed to S Shankar’s Oke Okkadu story in the 90s, surely AR Rahman’s songs would have got a chance to enter Chiranjeevi’s filmography. However, when Shankar’s Gentleman movie was remade in Hindi, they used Rahman’s original tunes in Hindi without any change, and it wouldn’t be considered a collaboration as such.

With Ram Charan’s Chikiri turning into a massive chartbuster, crossing 200 million views on YouTube across all languages, the song’s pan-India appeal and Rahman’s ability to blend rooted sounds with global sensibilities worked out big time. Let’s see if the Chiru-Rahman combo gets official or not.
