One of them is the music scored by Oscar-winning composers AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer together. The sound design is very interesting, and the score is quite compelling. At this juncture, it’s coming out that Rahman is now going the way of ‘superstars’ when it comes to charging from producers.
Rather than taking a huge chunk of money as an advance, it is coming out that AR Rahman is going the star's way, demanding a share in the profits of the movie. While the composer will anyway get royalties on the songs forever, every time the song gets played anywhere, or publicly performed by someone at any show, event, or pub, this profit-sharing deal is something new. In this model, only the composer will get a huge chunk if the film turns out to be a big hit at the box office. Otherwise, he might not get huge money like he would get by taking remuneration. That’s a win-win move for both.
At the same time, there are those who say that composers should just provide songs, take money and forget it, rather than demanding royalties, copyrights and profits in shares for life. Anyway, this profit-sharing model works only for a few like AR Rahman, Shashwat and others, but not for every composer who is just starting their career in Film Nagar now.
