AR Rahman Suffers Major Setback In Court Battle
Despite this legal setback, Rahman remains a dominant force in the music industry.
By: Tupaki Desk | 26 April 2025 12:34 PM ISTWhile A.R. Rahman is currently busy promoting his upcoming "Wonderment - The Tour," with shows scheduled across various cities, including the tour's launch in Mumbai on May 3rd, he's faced an unexpected turn of events.
The Delhi High Court has ordered the acclaimed music director and the film’s production company to pay Rs 2 crore to the petitioner in a copyright case over a song from Ponniyin Selvan 2. The film, directed by Mani Ratnam and featuring stars like Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai, was released in 2023. The case was filed by Ustad Fayaz Wasifuddin Dagar, who claimed that the song Veera Raja Veera, composed by Rahman, was copied from a composition by his father and uncle. The court issued an interim verdict last Friday, ordering Rahman and Madras Talkies to not only pay the fine but also give credit to the petitioner in the film.
Despite this legal setback, Rahman remains a dominant force in the music industry. Recently, he composed music for Chhaava, which has crossed a massive Rs 700 crore at the global box office.
