5 Years Jail Term for Film Producer

A CBI Court sentenced Tamil Film Producer Abavanan for five years rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty of checking Punjab National Bank. Along with him, Two Officials of the Bank will have to serve three years of rigorous punishment.
In 1999, Punjab National Bank Officials purchased cheques from Abavanan in violation of the bank procedures. 44 out of the 69 cheques issued by Abavanan weren't collected but Rs 2.34 crore was credited into his accounts even before the realization. In addition. The amount credited was withdrawn from the accounts by the Producer, eventually incurring a loss of Rs 2.34 crore to the Bank.
CBI Court imposed a fine of Rs 2.4 crore on Abavanan apart from imprisonment. Two Bank Officials identified as Rajagopalan and Ramanujam were fined Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh respectively.
Abavanan produced films like some of the biggies like Sindurapuvve and Kavya Thalaivan. Most of his films were dubbed in Telugu.
