A Disastrous Diwali For Tollywood
X
Tollywood pinned high hopes on Diwali season. A handful of films, including Manchi Rojulochaie, Peddanna, and Enemy hit the silver screens yesterday, 4th November. However, none of these films could garner a unanimously positive response from the Telugu audience. While Manchi Rojulochaie is a comedy caper starring Santosh Shobhan and Mehreen in the lead roles, Peddanna is a proper commercial potboiler with Rajinikanth, Keerthy Suresh, Nayanthara, and others in the lead roles. Comparatively, Manchi Rojulachaie had a better shot at the Tollywood box office, given the fact that it is the only Telugu film on the list and it is a comedy entertainer, a genre that often proves to be a successful one during the festival season. Maruthi's brand value added more zest to Manchi Rojulochaie. With good word of mouth, the relatively low-budget film could have done wonders at the box office. But it got off to just a decent start at the box office. Its box office run over the weekend will determine its box office prospects.

On the other hand, Rajinikanth's Annatthe(Peddanna in Telugu) is turning out to be a disastrous venture for everyone involved. Of late, Rajinikanth has been sidelining the Telugu market as he is okaying only Tamil-centric films. Consequently, his film are receiving a pretty poor reception from the Telugu audience. The fact that Peddanna could garner just around Rs 1 crore share in the Telugu states on its opening day proves the same. The film is heading towards an epic disaster. The bad word of mouth and over the top Tamil flavour doesn't help the film's box office prospects in the Telugu states.

Enemy put on an okayish performance on its opening day. The Vishal and Arya starrer is billed to be an action drama and it has put up okayish numbers on its opening day. But with low buzz, it would be a tough challenge for the film to put up good numbers at the box office in the next few days. All in all, not a single Diwali release could put on a good show at the ticket counters in the Telugu states.
